Ghana Premier League To Kick –Off On February 4


The commencement of the 2016/2017 Ghana premier League has been fixed for the first week of February 2017.

This disclosure was made by the Ghana Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi when he addressed congregants at the GFA’s Extra-Ordinary Congress in Accra.

Delivering his opening address at the Congress held at the Alisa Hotel, Mr Nyantakyi, revealed that the 2016/2017 Ghana Premier League 2016/2017 will kick off on February 4, 2017, while the GN Bank Division One League will kick off on February 3, 2017.

He further disclosed that the season will be preceded by the traditional season-opening Super Cup, and the re-introduced Gala Competition, which is making a return after a sixteen-year hiatus.

The Super Cup-a game played between the league winners and FA Cup winners will be honoured on the 22nd January 2017 in Tamale.

The game will see Premier League Champions, Wa All Stars and FA Cup winners, Bechem United battle each other for the bragging rights ahead of the season start.

The Gala, which is a contest between the respective Premier League clubs will be played in Kumasi on January 28 and 29 in Kumasi.

Paramount among issues to be tackled at the Extra-ordinary congress is the proposal for an expansion of the composition of the Ghana Premier League.

The proposal to make the elite league a 20 team structure according to documents made available to Empire FM has been shot down and starting 2016-17 the original 16 team format remains.
